It's the little things. Or so the saying goes.

With that platitude in mind, this is the first in a series of tried-and-tested tips that have helped me in my daily working life. They're not the big-thinking, life-changing overhauls that can change the direction of your career, but rather the little tricks and rituals that I return to when I'm feeling overwhelmed or stuck: things that work for me, and that I hope work for you, too.

The WW Club - One Thing That Works

On days when I'm struggling with to find any sense of pace with my work, this is the time management technique I return to most often. The Pomodoro Technique is a rather ridiculous name for a genius premise, that basically involves breaking your work down into timed, 25 minute slots, with a five minute break at the end of each one.

There are millions of time management techniques out there, but I like this one because 25 minutes is (if I'm being honest) about all my concentration span can handle. However, I nearly always find that once I've managed to complete one slot of time without reaching for my phone/a snack, I'm compelled to complete the next slot. And then the next. And then maybe the next one after that...

The app is also really well thought-out, enabling you to decide how many 'Pomodoros' (timed intervals) you want to complete in each day. You also have the option to factor in a longer break - i.e. lunch - after a time period that of your choosing, change the length of your Pomodoros and your short breaks, and so on and so forth.

Simple, effective, and it works - for me, anyway. Give it a try.
